"He just said that he would much rather have Joe Biden as president than Trump," the former president said. Bolton said that Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping both considered Trump an "easy mark" for manipulation. He also blacklisted several companies accused of stealing intellectual property and posing national security concerns, a stance that Biden continued during his presidency. "This is his money, and let's face it, what Donald Trump cares most about is Donald Trump, and particularly Donald Trump's money," Bolton said. Democrats insist Joe Biden's mind is fine following Robert Hur's special counsel report. Hur declined to file charges but questioned Biden's memory in his report. The report by special counsel Robert Hur was released following his investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents. WASHINGTON (AP) — John Kirby, President Joe Biden's national security spokesman, is getting an expanded role at the White House, according to a U.S. official. Kirby will have a new title, White House national security communications adviser, and will be named an assistant to the president, the official said Sunday. Kirby came to the White House in 2022 as the National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, not long after Karine Jean-Pierre was named White House press secretary, after the departure of former press secretary Jen Psaki. He will run a separate team from the national security press team that will coordinate information across agencies, the official said. Under Biden, Kirby has been a regular fixture in the White House press briefing room.

Biden, meanwhile, is absorbing brutal new polls showing him losing to GOP front-runner Trump in multiple key swing states. If the New York Times/Siena College survey is borne out in 2024, there would be no electoral path to victory for Biden. Biden supporters argue that his critics and media narratives set by the president’s low polls badly miss the most salient point that will define the 2024 election. Because this is a civil trial, Trump has no criminal liability. But the judge has already ruled that Trump, his adult sons and the Trump Organization committed “persistent and repeated” fraud.

In the end, the only man who could unify House Republicans behind him was a relatively little-known and mild-mannered evangelical Christian from Louisiana. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs the speaker saga wore on, it provoked questions among some House Republicans: How could it be that they had failed to elect a speaker for so long? While Gaetz maintains otherwise, his angry GOP colleagues have plenty of evidence to make their case that it was an attention ploy. Rep. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., plans to endorse an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in an effort to seek bank records and other documents from the president and his son Hunter Biden, two Republican sources familiar with the speaker's intentions told NBC News. McCarthy has signaled for weeks that the House could take up an impeachment inquiry, which would provide additional legal power to the House's investigations into the Biden family. It is unclear whether there are sufficient votes within the GOP conference to open an impeachment inquiry into the president. The White House is ramping up a war room to lead a response to a Republican impeachment inquiry, NBC News previously reported. McCarthy's move to endorse an impeachment inquiry into Biden comes amid pressure from right-wing Republicans, who are pushing back against a short-term funding bill to avert a government shutdown at the end of the month.

Rep. Greene went after fellow Rep. Matt Gaetz over the conservative push to impeach President Biden. Gaetz on Tuesday said that he "pushed" McCarthy for weeks regarding an impeachment inquiry. The decision comes as the California Republican has faced mounting pressure over the issue from many members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus, who hold immense sway in the narrow Republican House majority. AdvertisementAdvertisementThe White House on Tuesday immediately pushed back against GOP efforts to start an impeachment inquiry. "This is the same guy that wrote a book called 'Drain the Swamp', who is now arguing against an impeachment inquiry," she told the network.

To start, Congress faces a deadline to fund the government by the end of the month, or risk a potentially devastating federal shutdown. But starting a formal impeachment inquiry into Biden could help to appease Republican allies of Trump, who has emerged as the GOP frontrunner to confront Biden in the 2024 election for the White House. Woodhouse is now a senior adviser to the Congressional Integrity Project, which is preparing to criticize Republicans over the Biden impeachment. While the shutdown is the more pressing problem for McCarthy, the Biden impeachment inquiry is his bigger political gamble. McCarthy has signaled an impeachment inquiry is coming.

A House Freedom Caucus member said there's no evidence linking Biden to a high crime. Appearing on MSNBC on Sunday, Rep. Ken Buck also railed against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Buck noted the "time for impeachment is the time when there's evidence linking President Biden to a high crime or misdemeanor." In response to Buck's comments, Greene said it seemed like the Freedom Caucus member was pining for a job from the Democratic president. The publicized back-and-forth between Buck and Greene comes several months after the Freedom Caucus booted Greene from their ranks days after she called fellow caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert a "bitch" on the House floor.

CNN —Russia has a stockpile of cluster munitions and will consider using them against Ukraine “if they are used against us,” President Vladimir Putin said. “Russia has a sufficient supply of various types of cluster munitions,” the Russian leader said during an interview with a pro-Kremlin journalist. What are cluster munitions? Cluster munitions contain multiple explosives that are released over an area up to the size of several football fields. Putin also claimed that Russia has not yet used cluster munitions, despite evidence to the contrary.

Biden reportedly yells at White House staffers behind closed doors, sometimes in profanity-laced comments. The image of an angry Biden contrasts with the president's more avuncular public persona. Chris Whipple, who wrote the definitive book on White House chiefs of staff, said that the current commander-in-chief "definitely" has a temper. It may not be as volcanic as Bill Clinton's, but it's definitely there," Whipple told Axios. In his book about the Biden White House, Whipple wrote how then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki told Biden she knew she had gained his trust when he would finally unload on her.

Now, Mr. Biden’s aides think they have little choice. Ukraine, which has deployed cluster munitions of its own in the war, is burning through the available supply of conventional artillery shells, and it will take time to ramp up production. One American official said Thursday that it was now clear that the weapons are “100 percent necessary” to meet the current battlefield needs. The administration has also been aware that sending the weapons to Ukraine would be enormously unpopular among allies and members of Mr. Biden’s own party; over the years, many Democrats have led the charge to bar the use of the weapons by American troops. When, five days into the war, Jen Psaki, then the White House press secretary, was asked about the Russian use of unconventional weapons, including cluster munitions, she said: “We have seen the reports.

She said that Greene was actually more powerful than House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. "Every time something irks her, she communicates that McCarthy is doing her bidding," said Ocasio-Cortez of Greene. "Speaker McCarthy, in order to become Speaker, had to cut some deals we still don't know the details on. "I think you've got Marjorie Taylor Greene running the caucus." Susan Rice speaks on December 11, 2020, after being nominated to be Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council by US President-elect Joe Biden (R), in Wilmington, Delaware. President Joe Biden's domestic policy adviser, Susan Rice, is stepping down from her post next month, multiple current and former senior administration officials told NBC News. White House chief of staff Jeff Zients said Rice, who served as national security adviser during the Obama administration, has been critical to driving Biden's agenda and has taken the Domestic Policy Council "to new heights." Rice, who was on Biden's short list for vice president, entered the job without a domestic policy background, having served in foreign policy roles during the Obama and Clinton administrations. Deputy White House chief of staff Jen O'Malley Dillon echoed Klain's praise in a written statement.
Gavin Newsom has advice for Ron DeSantis: Don't run against Trump. Newsom added that DeSantis should "pack up and wait a few years," and not run in 2024. In July, DeSantis attacked Newsom after Newsom put up an ad in the Sunshine State enticing Floridians to move to California. Disney has in recent weeks outplayed DeSantis and found a loophole to keep power over the land around Walt Disney World in Orlando in perpetuity. DeSantis now says he's considering new taxes and tolls to punish Disney World for the power play.

He did not cite any evidence for his arrest concerns and his spokesman said the former president had not been notified of any impending arrest. "It's building a lot of sympathy for the former president," Sununu, also a Republican, told CNN's "State of the Union" program, saying he spoke to some people on Sunday who were not "big Trump supporters but they all said ... they felt he was being attacked." Sununu, a relative moderate, is considering a run and appeared to be trying to avoid alienating Trump supporters. McMaster and former economic adviser Gary Cohn on Sunday both urged Trump supporters to respond peacefully to any developments this week.
